How We Work

At Disha Jyoti, our mission to empower underserved families and children — including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities — begins in India and extends across borders. As a USA-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we do not operate our own programs directly; instead, we collaborate with trusted, government-registered local partners who share our values and possess the expertise, infrastructure, and community presence needed to create lasting impact.

We are currently focused on supporting programs in India, where the need for inclusive education, rehabilitation, and healthcare remains significant. As our resources grow, we aim to expand our partnerships to other underserved communities across the world — reaching more children and families in need of hope and opportunity.

1. Building Trusted Partnerships

We carefully identify and collaborate with credible grassroots organizations in India that are already creating measurable change in education, healthcare, and disability support. Each partner organization must:

• Be registered with the Government of India as a nonprofit or charitable society.

• Hold a valid FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) license to legally receive foreign donations.

• Demonstrate a track record of transparency, community trust, and effective program delivery.

2. Due Diligence & Accountability

Before any funding is provided, Disha Jyoti conducts a thorough review and verification process that includes:

• Assessing the organization’s mission, governance, and compliance status.

• Evaluating financial reports and prior program outcomes.

• Reviewing on-the-ground capabilities and sustainability of impact.

Once approved, both parties enter into a formal Grant Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that defines clear objectives, use of funds, reporting timelines, and compliance obligations.

3. Funding with Purpose

We maintain ultimate direction and control over the grant. Every grant we provide supports specific programs or needs — such as therapy, education, nutrition, or healthcare for children and families.
Funds are transferred only to verified FCRA-approved accounts and are monitored to ensure they are used solely for charitable and program-related purposes.

4. Monitoring & Reporting

We maintain ongoing communication with our partner organizations to ensure accountability and transparency. Partners provide:

• Regular financial and activity reports

• Impact updates and photos

• Annual audit reports

Our team also conducts virtual or in-person site visits to review progress and strengthen collaboration.

5. Creating Sustainable Impact

By partnering with local experts who understand the community’s needs best, Disha Jyoti ensures that every dollar donated leads to meaningful, long-term change.
This model allows us to reach more children, families, and communities — efficiently, ethically, and with measurable results.
